Written by Achiever Foods Nutrition Unit

Do you know that hypertensive crisis is not a death sentence? Scientists described it as extremely high increase in blood pressure reading. Having blood pressure readings of 180 mmHg or higher for systolic and a diastolic pressure of 120 mmHg or higher, are the figures usually declared as Hypertensive crises.

This extreme increase in pressure can damage blood vessels and affect the functionality of the heart of an individual.

📍Types of Hypertensive Crisis
Hypertensive crises require immediate attention. There are two types: Urgent and Emergency, both are critical in determining what care to give to an individual.

📍📍Hypertensive Urgency

If the second reading is as high as the first, and is not accompanied by any of the following complaints; chest pain, shortness of breath, back pain, numbness, general body weakness, poor vision (temporally), speech difficulty this would be considered a hypertensive urgency. This may not required a hospital admission but medications or dosages may be reviewed by your doctor.
